Dominiq Ponder, a 23-year-old backup quarterback for the University of Colorado, died in a single-car crash early Sunday morning in Boulder County. Driving a 2023 Tesla Model 3 around 3 a.m., Ponder lost control on a righthand curve, crashed through a guardrail, struck an electrical pole, and rolled down an embankment before the vehicle caught fire. Speed is suspected as a factor in the accident. A three-star prospect from Carol City High in Florida, Ponder transferred to Colorado after one year at Bethune-Cookman University. Though he saw minimal playing time as a redshirt in 2024 and 2025, coaches and teammates remembered him as a beloved leader and joy to be around who made a significant impact on the program.
