Clint Eastwood cannon from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly traced to Spanish museum
A 75mm cannon made in Manchester by Whitworth in 1873 was used for the climax of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The Sad Hill Cultural Association traced the weapon for the film’s 60th anniversary by comparing images from a book with detailed photographs. The cannon had been lent to the production team by the Spanish military and later returned to an army museum in Madrid, where it remained outdoors until the collection moved to Toledo in 2010. Further research led to Cartagena, where retired soldiers had been restoring a 19th-century British cannon at the local military history museum. Serial numbers matched, and the Cartagena museum had not known it was the film cannon.
"The serial numbers matched. The museum had no idea that they had the cannon that was used in the film. We told them that we were going to put out a press release because we knew that a lot of people would be interested and they'd get loads of visits."
