A census initiated by the religious group Mesa de la Hospitalidad highlighted the lack of awareness from municipal, regional, and national authorities regarding this demographic. In their investigation, journalists found that many of these individuals are facing severe challenges including mental health issues, illness, and unemployment. Contrary to claims from local officials, very few asylum seekers were found among the group, suggesting a misrepresentation of the situation at the airport.
