A's Select Carlos Cortes, Move Grant Holman To 60-Day IL
Briefly

Carlos Cortes, an outfielder for the A's, was selected to the 40-man roster but has been optioned back to Triple-A Las Vegas. At 28 years old, he had a successful stint in Triple-A this season with a .321/.418/.603 batting line and hit 16 home runs. He was a third-round pick by the Mets in 2018 and signed a minor league deal with the A's after becoming a free agent. Grant Holman was transferred to the 60-day IL to make roster space for Cortes. The A's have solidified their outfield corners for now, limiting Cortes' immediate big league opportunities.
Cortes has turned in a terrific .321/.418/.603 slash in 299 plate appearances in Triple-A, with 16 home runs and a 13.7% strikeout rate.
Cortes boasts a ridiculous .403/.500/.773 batting line over his past 30 games, including a Player of the Week nod for back-to-back four-hit games.
