Blue Jays teammates Guerrero, Okamoto ready to butt heads at World Baseball Classic
"I told him (Okamoto) two days ago, after Saturday, me and you, we enemies. Now we're teammates, but after Saturday, we are enemies. He's (Okamoto) been trying to teach me a little bit of Japanese, but that's tough man. He knows more Spanish than whatever he thinks he knows ... Every time he talked to me, it's in Spanish so I'm glad that he can speak a little Spanish."
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been helping Kazuma Okamoto adjust to MLB life this spring training, and the two Blue Jays teammates have developed a friendship. Despite their camaraderie, Guerrero playfully declared they will become rivals during the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The teammates are learning each other's languages, with Okamoto teaching Guerrero Japanese while improving his Spanish. Okamoto has impressed in spring training with a .333 batting average, 1.289 OPS, two doubles, one home run, and four RBIs across four games. Guerrero expressed appreciation for Okamoto's dedication to learning Spanish and acknowledged the challenge of learning Japanese.
