Diamondbacks To Select Trevor Richards
Briefly

Trevor Richards is being promoted to the Diamondbacks from Triple-A Reno, alongside catcher Adrian Del Castillo. Richards has previously played for the Royals and Cubs this season, accumulating a 5.12 ERA in the minors with a 22% strikeout rate. His major league experience over the last eight seasons includes a 5.05 ERA since the start of 2022. Due to injuries impacting multiple pitchers, Arizona is looking for viable options in the bullpen, and Richards may provide depth with his ability to strike out left-handed hitters effectively.
Trevor Richards is now with his third organization of the season, having also spent time with the Royals and Cubs. He tossed three big league innings with Kansas City but was tagged for four runs in that small sample.
Arizona's bullpen has been decimated by injury, with various pitchers undergoing surgeries or hitting the IL due to injuries like lower back and shoulder issues.
Richards doesn't have a strong recent track record, but he's been a serviceable middle reliever at various points in his career and can miss bats at a solid clip.
His above-average changeup makes him a quality option against lefties - more so than versus righties - which probably holds extra appeal to the D-backs.
