Dodgers News: Kike Hernandez Played Through UCL Injury
"They didn't want to touch my UCL. They didn't check it this time around. In July, there was a tear there, but Dr. ElAttrache was like, 'I'm not going to worry about your UCL because it's your bottom arm and you don't put a lot of stress on it when you swing. So he was like, 'I'm not going to let you miss a full year of baseball for your non-throwing arm.'"

Kiké Hernández became a free agent after the Dodgers won the 2025 World Series and underwent left elbow extensor repair surgery that could keep him out until May 2026. The left elbow issue began after a head-first slide into home on May 28, forcing nearly two months missed. A UCL tear was present in July, but medical staff opted not to repair it because it affected his bottom (non-throwing) arm. Hernández attempted to play through the injury, went on the 10-day injured list July 7, and returned Aug. 25 after nonsurgical procedures. He finished the season .203/.255/.366 with eight doubles, 10 home runs and 35 RBI in 92 games, played in all 17 postseason games, and helped turn the double play that decided Game 6. The surgery prevents participation in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
