Tanner Scott signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the Dodgers and has struggled in his first season, posting career highs in home runs allowed and homers per nine (nine homers, 1.66 HR/9). He has eight blown saves and allowed a game-tying homer after returning from the 15-day injured list. Scott's meatball percentage dipped slightly from 7.7% to 7.5%, but batters are swinging at those pitches 87.5% of the time, a 6.4% increase. He has thrown more pitches in the strike zone, hitters are swinging more and making contact at a rate nearly six percent higher, and improved control has coincided with poorer fastball command and predictability in the middle of the plate.
It's super frustrating. You never want to see the ball leave the park, especially in that situation,
I just think if you look at the spray chart, everything is middle-middle,
He's not walking guys, but you get good hitters, right-handed or left-handed, if they can lock in on a certain area, they're going to have more success.
The stuff is really good, but I do think when you're consistently throwing in the same zone, that's the predictability part of it.
