Jason Heyward received his 2024 Los Angeles Dodgers World Series ring during a pregame ceremony at Dodger Stadium, presented by Freddie Freeman and several former teammates. Heyward originally joined the Dodgers on a Minor League contract before the 2023 season, earned a roster spot, and re-signed for $9 million for 2024. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to wear No. 23 and said he wanted to work hard, have fun and compete. Heyward struggled last season, was released amid roster changes, signed with the Astros and Padres, dealt with left knee inflammation, was designated for assignment in June, cleared waivers and was released.
"It's amazing to have people believe in you," Heyward said of returning to the Dodgers. "That's something that's earned, for sure. Especially with the Dodgers. They don't hand out these jerseys lightly. It's just a privilege to come back here and wear No. 23 for this group, this fan base and city. "Just want to work hard, have fun and compete."
Heyward struggled last season and was released by the Dodgers amid a roster crunch and changes with Mookie Betts shifting out to right field. He went on to sign with the Houston Astros for the remainder of the 2024 season. Heyward then signed with the San Diego Padres and began this season as their everyday right fielder. However, he dealt with left knee inflammation that required a stint on the injured list and Heyward never gained much traction.
