Keider Montero joins Detroit Tigers as Chris Paddack steps away on bereavement list
""We're human beings," Paddack said Tuesday, Sept. 2, after the Tigers' 12-5 loss to the Mets. "I want to be there for my family. A.J. (Hinch) and them, they're giving me three days to go spend time with my family and be there. Hopefully, that's a little reset for me, to be able to go back home and hug the loved ones. The reason why I play this game is for them.""
""We were just following the information about his family," manager Hinch said before Wednesday's game. "He knew that it was going to center around the back end of this series, into the off day, and then potentially into the White Sox series.""
""We had pushed back his outing in Triple-A this week to line up for when, or if, we were going to need pitching," Hinch said, "which is why he hasn't pitched since that last outing. He's lined up to handle whatever role we give him.""
Keider Montero was called up from Triple-A Toledo on Sept. 3 to join the Detroit Tigers' roster ahead of the series finale against the New York Mets, replacing right-hander Chris Paddack. Paddack was placed on the bereavement list following a death in his family and is eligible to miss three to seven days; he plans to return after the minimum three days, likely for the second game of the upcoming White Sox series. The Tigers adjusted their pitching plan after learning of Paddack's situation days earlier and delayed Montero's Triple-A outing so he would be available and prepared for any role.
