S4 Capital's Monks unit is undergoing a restructure that will include layoffs, with affected employees to be notified and changes starting September 5. UK rules require collective consultation if more than 20 roles are impacted within 90 days. Management frames the moves as efforts to manage the cost base, streamline operations, and integrate businesses, while declining to disclose the number of roles affected. The advertising sector faces demand weakness from macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainty. Artificial intelligence is increasing agency productivity but also threatens automation of services. S4's market value has fallen sharply from its 2021 peak.
On Thursday, Monks, S4 Capital's operating brand, informed staffers of a restructuring that includes layoffs, according to a screenshot of an internal presentation viewed by Business Insider. The slide detailed how employees whose roles could be affected would be informed this week. In the UK, if more than 20 employees are affected by a layoff in a 90-day period, the company is required to enter a collective consultation process with representatives for the employees. S4 is headquartered in the UK.
The presentation said that the "reshaping of teams," including reporting lines, redeployment, and changes to roles or departments, would commence on September 5. "Managing our cost base effectively is a key priority in this environment and we have continued to work to streamline and integrate our businesses," an S4 spokesperson said in a statement. The company declined to comment on how many roles would be affected by the restructure.
