Massachusetts State Police introduced Safety Cloud, a system designed to alert drivers of nearby emergency vehicles. Installed in 233 cruisers, it communicates real-time information to GPS systems and apps, thus providing motorists with more time to respond to emergency situations. The initiative responds to rising incidents caused by distracted drivers. The rollout, informed by past accidents involving stationary cruisers, aims to improve safety for both emergency personnel and motorists, with nearly 900,000 alerts issued since its implementation funded by a federal grant.
"These crashes have devastating life-altering consequences," Bernstein said in a video shared on X.
"As an innovative Department committed to using technology to mitigate dangerous situations, the Massachusetts State Police believe Safety Cloud will enhance the safety of Troopers."
