At the White House Correspondents' Dinner, Axios reporter Alex Thompson criticized the press corps for failing to adequately cover President Biden's decline. He emphasized the need for journalists to acknowledge their mistakes, stating this acknowledgment builds trust with the public. Thompson believes that the decline in trust towards media can be attributed to the press's shortcomings. Despite these failings, he defended the role of the Correspondents' Association as vital in promoting truth and independent journalism in a challenging media landscape.
We, myself included, missed a lot of this story. And some people trust us less because of it. We bear some responsibility for faith in the media being at such lows.
This association has been, is, and will continue to be critical to that mission. I believe our mission is vital in a world where people are struggling to figure out what's true.
