Doral, Miami-Dade's Venezuelan stronghold, to empower cops in Trump immigration crackdown
Briefly

On February 9, 2025, members of the Venezuelan community in Miami rallied for opposition leaders Edmundo Gonzalez and Maria Corina Machado, as Doral City Council prepares to partner with Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the 287(g) program. This affiliation could enable local law enforcement to assist in federal immigration enforcement, aligning Doral with controversial deportation policies of the Trump administration. While officials assert that the intent is not to criminalize immigrants, the concern arises over potential racial profiling and previous incidents regarding treatment of Venezuelans.
The intention isn't to detain anyone based on how they look. We are obligated to follow federal and state laws, but the goal is not to target individuals based on appearance.
The potential agreement comes as Venezuelans have become the target of several immigration policies by the Trump administration, which has repeatedly described Venezuelan migrants in racist terms.
