Miami is set to experience a significant temperature drop with a cold front arriving on Friday, bringing morning temperatures down to around 59°F. This comes after a week of unseasonably warm weather with near record high temperatures for February. Meteorologists noted that this cold front marks a noticeable seasonal shift for the region, which traditionally has mild winters. The temperature may continue to hover in the mid-70s during the day while residents should be cautious of elevated rip current risks due to changing weather conditions.
"A cold front is on the way in time for the weekend said CBS News Miami meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez. She's forecasting 59 Friday morning when the normal low for a Feb. 21 in Miami is 64."
"So hot, we're flirting with near record highs," Gonzalez added. A heat index of 91, added Brian McNoldy, a University of Miami senior research associate.
"It feels more like May 19 out there rather than February 19!" he posted on Facebook around noon Wednesday.
"An elevated risk of rip currents makes boating conditions sketchy as the cold front starts slipping through on Thursday," the National Weather Service in Miami said.
