Gator with no tail spotted waddling across Louisiana highway: 'Seems to be surviving'
Briefly

In Louisiana, an alligator spotted on a highway without its tail stunned drivers who struggled to identify the creature. Ashlyn Bartholomew, who filmed the encounter on May 19, described the gator approaching her car while crossing Highway 23. Although the animal was missing its tail completely, it appeared calm and soon made its way back to the nearby canal. Experts theorize that the tail loss might be due to a territorial battle with another alligator or possibly a boating accident.
"I couldn't tell at first if he was an alligator or a big dog or what," Ashlyn Bartholomew said, highlighting the confusion of drivers witnessing the unusual sight.
The gator, who had its tail completely lopped off, seemed unfazed, with Bartholomew recounting, "He laid down. He was just minding his own business."
Zoologists theorize the tail loss likely resulted from a territorial dispute with another alligator or an encounter with a boat propeller.
