Holy week tradition: Miami Catholics gather to mark Good Friday ahead of Easter Sunday
Briefly

On Good Friday, over a hundred Miami Catholics participated in the Living Stations of the Cross procession, a ritual celebrating Jesus Christ's crucifixion history. Led by clergy and community members, the procession moved through Little River, incorporating prayers and songs in multiple languages. This traditional act of reverence, embedded in Christian practice since the fourth century, invites participants to reflect on the 14 stations representing significant moments leading to Jesus' death. Community member Rose Anderson remarked on the connection felt with diverse congregants, while Father O'Hala stressed the spiritual relevance of the cross in modern times.
Bishops, deacons, priests, and parishioners from St. Mary's Cathedral marched down Northwest Second Avenue, stopping every so often to pray - 'Our Father' and 'Hail Mary'.
The 'Veneration of the Cross' allows the faithful to take time after service to honor the cross, representing different moments in Jesus' death.
Father Steven O'Hala said carrying the cross is not just about remembering the Bible scenes, but relating them to contemporary spirituality.
Rose Anderson expressed joy in gathering with diverse participants, worshiping the same God, highlighting the community's unity during the Holy Week services.
