Avantae Williams, once a celebrated recruit for the University of Miami in 2020, was arrested for second-degree murder after a shooting at a DeLand bar that left one man dead. The incident, occurring during a bar fight, escalated when a firearm was introduced. Williams has a history of legal troubles, including previous arrests that led to his suspension at UM. Despite his promising start, his career has been marked by missed seasons and off-field issues, prompting a transfer to Maryland where his role was also limited.
Witnesses told investigators that a fistfight broke out between several men inside the bar. During the altercation, one of the men produced a firearm and began shooting.
Williams, 24, is being held in a Volusia County jail without bond after his arrest and charge of second-degree murder in relation to a weekend shooting.
