""Minister, I'm glad to hear you mention the scourge of antisemitism, but I would have thought that it must be carefully managed and not used for political gain. "Antisemitism is a scourge and must be countered, and therefore, don't you think facts are important?""
""Ireland is sick with the antisemitic virus""
""Why? Why? Because you're only responding. There is nothing in your system right now that can defend you from that virus of antisemitism, except external pressure, and exposing the antisemitic nature of this Government of Ireland and other institutions.""
Dublin City Council removed a proposal to rename the park named for Chaim Herzog after council management judged the renaming proposal not legally sound. The park was named for Chaim Herzog in 1995; he was born in Belfast, raised in Dublin, and served as Israel's sixth president. The motion in Rathgar arose from outcry about Israel's conduct in the Gaza war and was referred back to the relevant council committee. At an Israeli Foreign Ministry event, Irish ambassador Sonya McGuinness questioned Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa'ar. Mr Sa'ar called Ireland "sick with the antisemitic virus" and described the renaming proposal as antisemitic, while Ms McGuinness warned against using antisemitism for political gain and stressed the need for facts.
