Man (63) jailed for eight years after he attacked wife with boiling water and claw hammer while she slept
""I am happy (with the sentence) - I was expecting eight years (imprisonment). I am so happy all of this is over. This (the court process) has been a nightmare. I hope I never have to see that man's face in my life ever again.""
""There was a letter of apology read out in court today but I never saw that letter. He is narcissistic - a psychopath. He did it all wrong - if he did the hammer first I would not be standing here today.""
""Anytime there was ever a big case on the news, he'd say: 'I wonder would I get away with it?' He was thinking about this for years. It was in his head to do it - it was only a question of when.""
""It was beyond cruel and evil what he did to me. He poured the boiling water on me and hit me a number of times over the head with the hammer. He didn't seem to care about the damage he was doing to me", she said."
Noel Twomey, 63, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm after an unprovoked attack on his wife at their home on January 15, 2024. The assault involved boiling water and blows to the head with a claw hammer while the victim slept and was defenseless. The victim feared she would die and now experiences anxiety, nightmares and ongoing fear. Judge Dermot Sheehan described the assault as horrific and noted the planning, use of a weapon and the severe impact on the victim's life. Twomey received an eight-year prison sentence and a 12-year non-contact order.
