"We are working closely with key partners and we absolutely understand the concern of local people. We need the public's help to bring us information on who has carried out this horrendous attack. I can reassure you that we are doing everything possible to bring those responsible to justice on this young woman's behalf."
"You don't belong in this country, get out."
Police are investigating the rape of a British-born Sikh woman in her 20s after an attack by two white men in Oldbury on the morning of 9 September. The attackers allegedly told her, "You don't belong in this country, get out," and assaulted her between about 8am and 8.30am. A man in his 30s arrested on suspicion of rape has been released on bail pending further inquiries. West Midlands Police are trawling hundreds of hours of CCTV, conducting extensive forensic work, and supporting the victim while urging witnesses to come forward. More than 450 Gurdwaras and Sikh organisations have sent a joint letter to Keir Starmer calling for government action on anti-Sikh hate. Hundreds attended a vigil.
