Jennifer Saunders has been appointed as the first female director of the New York State Museum, the oldest and largest public museum in the US. The museum's collections span science, history, archaeology, and anthropology, totaling over 20 million artefacts. Saunders previously directed the Washington State Historical Society and has extensive experience in museum management. She aims to utilize the museum's collection to tell New York's diverse stories and is looking to explore her family history linked to the Revolutionary War. Her accomplishments include expanding budgets and launching significant public programs in Washington State.
I'm excited to work with the staff and be able to utilise the amazing collection at the museum to showcase all the stories that New York has to offer.
I'm certainly aware that what we consider deep history in Washington is relatively young on the East Coast. I think that the approach to history is consistent, no matter where you are-or at least the approach that I embrace, and that's promoting a whole history.
