"You see what this game means to (Pitino), and it's not just the basketball. I literally grew up here the past three years. I remember coming in nervous with Coach Pitino and St. John's and trying to perform. I still make mistakes, but I am able to play through it (now), and that starts with him."
"It's a great match because he brings it every single day. That's what the great ones do. I get on Zuby as much as (anyone). I give him a lot of love because he knows I love him."
Zuby Ejiofor joined St. John's in 2023 as a former Kansas recruit and initially served as Joel Soriano's backup, averaging just 4.3 points in limited minutes during his first season. Over the past two seasons, he has become instrumental in elevating the program, helping St. John's win the Big East tournament last season and currently competing for the conference title. The 6-foot-9 senior forward entered this season as the Big East's preseason player of the year and recently recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in a dominant 89-57 victory over Villanova. Coach Rick Pitino credits Ejiofor's consistent effort and growth as central to the team's success.
