Preliminary findings indicate the object that crashed into a Polish cornfield on August 20, 2025 was a Russian-made version of the Iranian-designed Shahed drone. Debris including burned metal, plastic, a charred engine and propeller were found outside the village of Osiny, leaving a 6-meter crater. No casualties were reported. Polish generals described the aircraft as a decoy drone that was unarmed but carried a self-destruct warhead. Polish officials condemned the incident as a provocation and a violation of airspace and said they would protest the perpetrator. Multiple incursions into Polish airspace since 2022 have raised alarm in the EU and NATO.
