Bishop Niall Coll, aged 62 and a native of Letterkenny, will leave the Diocese of Ossory to become Bishop of Raphoe. The appointment is the first Irish appointment by Pope Leo XIV. Raphoe is located in the northwest and encompasses 33 parishes that cover most of County Donegal. Bishop Coll will return to his native diocese to take up leadership of those parishes. The announcement was released simultaneously in the Vatican and in Ireland on Thursday morning. The transfer represents a reassignment from Ossory back to his home diocese.
