Ricky Evans defeated seventh seed James Wade 3-2 in the second round at Alexandra Palace, winning the final set 6-4 in legs after missing seven match darts. Wade, a four-time world championship semi-finalist, became the highest seed eliminated after missing a match dart at double five when 4-3 ahead in the final set. Evans produced a 128 checkout early and a decisive 13-dart leg, and recovered from a loss of composure with 144 and 89 checkouts before sealing victory with a 99 finish. Kenyan debutant David Munyua’s run ended in a 3-0 defeat by Kevin Doets after an earlier upset.
