"The trains are officially the British Rail Class 701 Aventra supplied by Alstom, and were ordered in 2017 and the first were expected to go into public service in the middle of 2019. However, it took until late last year for them to start regular passenger services, and there are still some issues with platform visibility with the in-car camera systems."
"Support will be delivered by a 40-strong team based at SWR's Wimbledon depot and Network Rail's Basingstoke Rail Operations Centre. Under the agreement, Alstom will also supply heavy and light maintenance spares, ensuring the fleet remains in optimal condition. A team of five engineers will focus on data capture and analysis from trains in service, enabling predictive maintenance and performance improvements."
South Western Railway has contracted Alstom for long-term technical and maintenance support for its new Class 701 'Arterio' Aventra fleet under a £66 million, four-and-a-half-year agreement. The contract covers 750 vehicles comprising sixty ten-car and thirty five-car units operating on suburban routes into London Waterloo. Support will be provided by a 40-strong team at Wimbledon depot and Network Rail’s Basingstoke Rail Operations Centre, with Alstom supplying heavy and light spares. Five engineers will capture and analyse in-service train data to enable predictive maintenance and performance improvements. The Arterio fleet is being phased in to replace Classes 455, 456, 458 and 707 after delayed entry into service and ongoing camera visibility issues.
