Catherine O'Hara died at age 71 in her Los Angeles home after a brief illness. Born and raised in Toronto, she began her career in the 1970s at The Second City improvisational theatre and performed on SCTV. Her film break came in 1980 with Double Negative alongside Eugene Levy and John Candy. She gained global recognition playing Macaulay Culkin's mother in Home Alone (1990). She later starred as Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek, winning an Emmy for best actress in a comedy series in 2020. Tributes from actors, politicians and colleagues praised her comedic brilliance and generosity.
