Turks In Montenegro Endure Attacks, Threats, And Vandalism
""I don't like this,""
""Everyone is welcome in Montenegro. We are a multiethnic, egalitarian, and I would say civil state, and we need to preserve that.""
""Every form of violence should be condemned,""
""But it is up to the government to change their immigration policy as soon as possible, because there are too many migrants. The security situation has really deteriorated and, to tell you the truth, I no longer feel safe and comfortable.""
""Turks out" and "Kill the Turks.""
A fight on October 25 in Podgorica escalated into wider anti-Turkish violence, including a stabbing, vandalism of a Turkish restaurant, burned cars, and multiple physical assaults. Police detained a Turkish and an Azerbaijani citizen as suspects in the stabbing and held dozens more suspected of lacking legal residence documents. Crowds marched through predominantly Turkish neighborhoods on October 26–27 chanting threats, and authorities detained eight people for hate speech and threats of violence. Some residents expressed fear and called for preserving Montenegro's multiethnic character while others demanded stricter immigration policies. Montenegrin authorities temporarily suspended the visa-free regime for Turkish citizens on October 27.
