Two dozen villagers pool savings of 300,000 to save their local pub from closing down
Briefly

Ahern's, the only pub in Kilteely, Co Limerick, was bought by 26 local villagers for €300,000 and renamed the Street Bar. The group consists of a diverse array of professionals and each invested up to €15,000. They aim to maintain the pub as a community meeting space after the area lost several local businesses. Landscape gardener Noel O'Dea emphasized the importance of the pub to the village's social fabric and mentioned plans to make use of an additional shop included in the sale, inviting US President Donald Trump for a visit as part of fostering community connections.
"They say it takes a village to raise a child, but I tell you, it also takes a village to save its pub."
"The pub is the heart of any community, and because all the shops and pubs here were gone, this was our last meeting place."
