"Kyrylo has specialized experience in these areas and sufficient strength to achieve results,"
"both an honor and a responsibility at a historic time for Ukraine to focus on the critically important issues of the state's strategic security."
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Kyrylo Budanov as his new chief of staff following the resignation of Andriy Yermak amid an anti-corruption graft investigation. Budanov, 39, has led the military intelligence agency GUR since 2020 and previously took part in operations against Moscow-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine now under Russian occupation. He became a prominent wartime figure through interviews and briefings. The chief of staff role emphasizes political and diplomatic coordination and marks a change from intelligence duties. Zelenskyy presented the move as a refocus on security and defense. Foreign Intelligence Service head Oleh Ivashchenko is set to replace Budanov at GUR.
