The Kremlin confirmed on Friday that Putin had received the request, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov telling Sky News the Russian leader had of course agreed to the proposal."

The talks followed a first US-mediated meeting in Abu Dhabi that constituted the first direct public negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv since early in the war. A US-backed plan to end the war is under discussion. An agreement was announced that Russia would refrain from attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure for a week amid extreme cold. Ukrainian leadership expects implementation of ceasefire measures on energy targets.
