The 500 Club has operated since the 1950s and sits at 17th and Guerrero streets. Razavi, a native Bay Area resident who previously worked in hospitality and booze businesses, bought the bar in 2018. Early reactions included pushback driven by false reports that a tech worker from Southern California had purchased it. Despite concerns that the venue would change drastically, Razavi kept the long bar with a passthrough for bartenders serving both rooms, maintained the dark lighting, and preserved beer-sign decor and other existing elements.
