Pantoja fell after landing a head kick, aided by a push, and when he tried to post on his arm it appeared to dislocate or break. He posted messages and a video with his arm in a sling, thanking fans and vowing to return stronger and sooner than expected. He said he believed he was in the best shape of his life and had aimed to finish Van in the first round. Pantoja spoke about his wife and his faith, and accepted that Van won the belt that night.
