Alexandre Pantoja Speaks Out After Horrific Arm Injury: "Back Sooner Than You Think"
"Pantoja, 35, fell to the canvas after landing a head kick on Van, helped along a little by a push from the challenger. When he tried to post on his arm, it appeared to snap, a dislocation or break from all appearances. Now, "The Cannibal" has spoken out, and promises that he'll be back sooner than fans would think. Pantoja posted a number of messages on social media in the wake of the fight, including one in a video with his arm in a sling."
""That's what happened, you know. Accidents. When I go to the UFC today, I think I had the best shape of my life. When I see Joshua Van on the other side of the octagon, I believe I can finish him in the first round, that's what I tried to do," he stated. "Best camp of my life, best weight cut, best everything. I felt so comfortable in the octagon."
Alexandre Pantoja lost his flyweight title at UFC 323 after a horrific arm injury in the co-main event against Joshua Van. Pantoja fell after landing a head kick, aided by a push, and when he tried to post on his arm it appeared to dislocate or break. He posted messages and a video with his arm in a sling, thanking fans and vowing to return stronger and sooner than expected. He said he believed he was in the best shape of his life and had aimed to finish Van in the first round. Pantoja spoke about his wife and his faith, and accepted that Van won the belt that night.
