UFC flyweight Maycee Barber experienced a medical emergency shortly before her scheduled fight against Erin Blanchfield. Although Barber felt fine, an incident during her warmup led officials to deem it unsafe for her to compete. Blanchfield indicated that Barber might have suffered a seizure, although Barber has indicated it’s still uncertain and described it potentially as a 'pseudo-seizure.' The confusion around the timing meant fans were already expecting her walkout before the cancellation was officially announced.
"We're not entirely sure [what happened]," Barber told ESPN. "There was an event that happened in the back when I was warming up and the doctor, the commissioners, everybody saw it."
"It looked like my autonomic nervous system might have been having an issue, it looked like a 'pseudo-seizure,' is what I was told, but I don't have an answer."
