California girl, 13, used jiu-jitsu training to defend herself against crazed attacker: 'She got him in a headlock'
Briefly

A 13-year-old girl from California used her jiu-jitsu skills to defend herself against an attacker while returning from school. The assailant approached her unexpectedly, but she effectively countered his initial strike with a series of defensive moves taught during her martial arts training. Her sensei praised her quick thinking and self-defense execution, emphasizing that she did exactly what she was trained to do. Despite being shaken by the encounter, the girl's bravery is being applauded by local authorities, who are still looking for the unidentified attacker after he was injured in the attempted assault.
"She punched him, she got him in a headlock, kneed him a couple times, spun him around, threw him on the ground," Sensei Michael Blackburn said.
"You have to fight in class like you're going to protect yourself on the street," Blackburn told the outlet.
"To have that type of self-confidence, that awareness, to be a quick decision maker, and make a decision that's going to keep themselves safe," Carmel Police Commander Todd Trayer said.
"She had stepped on his foot . . . and when she threw him on the ground, he broke his ankle."
