Willow DuBrovin, a Westhampton Beach senior, recently achieved a black belt in Soo Bahk Do, balancing this accomplishment with a rigorous academic schedule that includes a 4.0 GPA and various extracurricular activities. She found her passion for martial arts after struggling with traditional sports in her childhood, only to discover her potential with Master John Kim, who recognized her dedication. Her journey involved intense training and participation in youth classes, which further exemplified her commitment and ability to excel in both martial arts and academics as she heads to Dartmouth to study physics.
"The black belt was at the top of my list and what I've wanted the most," Westhampton Beach senior Willow DuBrovin told The Post of her major milestone in the traditional Korean martial art of Soo Bahk Do.
"She was coming here six, seven times a week," said Kim, who ran DuBrovin through brutal drills... it was a partnership, but she's the one who showed up."
