James Guccione looks ahead to Warriors Series III milestone at Madison Square Garden | amNewYork
"I fought my last fight in Madison Square Garden. It feels good, you know? It's big because at the time, I was already kind of mixed up with the promotion on a lower level in terms of matchmaking and putting the fights together. That was 2017. I'm retired, I'm not fighting anymore, but now to know that I'm the promoter, I'm the one in the position of being able to put this show on. It's so awesome. It's big."
"New York is a stronghold of Muay Thai. Muay Thai roots are in New York City. We're bigger than New York now. But at the same time, I talk to these investors and to these bigger companies, and they all ask about our New York connection."
Warriors Series III makes its Madison Square Garden debut on Saturday, presented by Three Pillar Promotions and RFC Promotions. The event represents a major expansion for a promotion that built its foundation at the Melrose Ballroom in Queens over recent years. Co-founder James Guccione, a retired professional Muay Thai fighter who fought his final bout at MSG in 2017, now returns as a promoter. Guccione transitioned into promotion gradually while competing, working as a cutman and building relationships throughout New York gyms. He began matchmaking in 2016 before co-founding Three Pillar Promotions in 2019. Despite the promotion's expansion beyond Queens, Guccione emphasizes New York's central importance to Muay Thai's growth in the United States.
