Louis Lee Scott came into the Contender Series 1.5 pounds over weight and, despite an extra hour and extreme measures, still missed the target by less than half a pound. Long travel — two flights totaling about 12 hours — left him heavier than usual before fight week. The weight cut became physically severe: vomiting, a racing heart rate, and a five-hour period without sweating. Scott sat in a sauna for an hour and chewed ice to force weight off. Despite the illness and the miss, he won the fight and received a UFC contract.
I've never traveled this far to fight before, and obviously flying 12 hours and two flights to get here, making you hold water and all that, I'd come into fight week heavier than I ever had been.
