"Apple's first foldable smartphone, which we're calling iPhone Fold for simplicity's sake, has long been rumored to finally make its debut next year. Now though, a new report from Korea claims it may actually only arrive in 2027. Alternatively, if Apple does manage to launch it in 2026, only about 5-7 million units will be produced next year. The reason for the possible delay is quoted to be the time it takes to decide on all of the specs, including, very importantly, the hinge."
"A recent rumor claimed the hinge would be much cheaper than originally anticipated, by the way. At the rate preparations for production are going, Apple won't be able to sell the 10-15 million units it wants to next year. The iPhone Fold is said to feature a 7.58" folding screen and a 5.38" cover display. Both of these will use LTPO tech as well as CoE which eliminates polarizers."
Apple's first foldable smartphone, called the iPhone Fold, may be delayed until 2027 instead of launching in 2026. If a 2026 launch occurs, production is expected to be limited to about 5–7 million units. The delay is attributed to the time required to finalize specifications, with the hinge design singled out as a critical decision. A separate rumor suggests the hinge cost could be lower than previously thought. Current production pacing is unlikely to meet an earlier target of 10–15 million units. The device is said to include a 7.58" folding screen and a 5.38" cover display using LTPO and CoE.
