// FON_OS - Presence and Transformation
"// FON_OS is a collaborative audiovisual performance and research project by musician and composer Fon Román and visual designer and researcher Oswaldo García (Universidade de Vigo). Together they explore how heritage spaces can be reimagined as living instruments through the fusion of real-time sound improvisation and architectural digital twins. At the core of the project lies a shared question: how can contemporary creative practices reactivate heritage spaces, allowing us to experience them not as silent monuments but as resonant organisms?"
"The most recent iteration of // FON_OS unfolded inside the Church of Santo Domingo, a 16th-century landmark in Spain. García, drawing from his expertise in 3D scanning and visual performance, captured the church's interior and exterior through a combination of Faro and GeoSLAM laser scanners, complemented by iPhone LiDAR scans for ornamental detail. This process generated an intricate digital twin of the building, composed of millions of points and geometries."
FON_OS pairs musician and composer Fon Román with visual designer and researcher Oswaldo García to transform heritage spaces into immersive, responsive instruments. The practice fuses real-time musical improvisation with architectural digital twins generated by laser and LiDAR scanning. Recent work used Faro, GeoSLAM and iPhone LiDAR scans to create point clouds and geometries of the Church of Santo Domingo, then projected processed datasets back into the space. García manipulates those scanned geometries in TouchDesigner to render fluid, breathing visuals that oscillate between hyper-detailed fidelity and abstract dissolution. The approach reconnects cultural memory with contemporary audiovisual improvisation.
