Algernon Cadwallader is releasing their first new album, 'Trying Not to Have a Thought', on September 12, marking their return after 14 years. This album features original members and was self-produced at Headroom Studios. The band also shared their new single, 'Hawk', along with a music video. The album's creation was influenced by reflections on modern life and the overwhelming nature of thoughts, as explained by the lead singer in an interview. A North American tour will follow, starting on November 6.
In a new interview, Helmis elaborated on the album's title, stating, 'There's obviously a few songs that were about the current world we live in-America, the empire. I didn't want to premeditate it, this is what's going on in my mind and probably everybody's mind these days. It's just overwhelming, which is where the title of the record comes from; 'Trying not to have a thought' is a euphemism for, like, meditation and trying to free the mind.'
The album was largely recorded and self-produced at Reinhart's own Headroom Studios in Philadelphia, featuring original band members. This is their third album and first since reuniting.
