Cher had 'special arrangement' with David Geffen and had gay roommate
"He never had been in love with anybody. I was the first person that he had real feelings for, so we had a special arrangement."
"It was like [I was] born yesterday. They would bring me a bunch of Cher Enterprises contracts to sign, and it was always when I was getting ready to go on stage."
"We moved into this apartment, and when my parents left, we smoked a cigarette in every room. We just put in ashtrays everywhere and smoked a cigarette in every room."
Cher dated David Geffen in the 1970s while he was closeted and the relationship involved a special arrangement because he had not been in love before. They met at a Christmas party hosted by Lou Adler. Geffen discovered that 100 percent of Cher’s money was controlled by Sonny Bono and his lawyer and urged her to get out of the deal. Cher asked Sonny to make her a partner and he refused, and she credits Geffen with helping her leave the controlling financial arrangement. Cher also lived with a gay roommate after leaving home at 16 and met Sonny while living there.
