'Few have done so much for this city' - Ian Brown pays tribute to 'Mani' at funeral as he joins Liam Gallagher to carry coffin
"One thing we can all agree on is Mani was one of the greatest lads we ever met, one of the greatest men we ever knew. Lucky us."
"Mani was like a brother to me. A dream as a friend. A true musical comrade."
"he was the life and soul of wherever he was, making every room he was in brighter"
Mourners filled Manchester Cathedral for a service where former bandmates, fellow musicians and public figures carried Mani Mounfield's coffin. Ian Brown and Bobby Gillespie joined John Squire, Reni, Liam Gallagher and Andrew Innes in bearing the coffin as fans packed the street outside. Attendees included Paul Weller, David Beckham, Gary Neville, Bez and Peter Hook. Speakers remembered Mani as a brotherly friend, a constant presence for 45 years, and a man who loved family, football, fishing, music and Lambrettas. Tributes described a ‘‘tsunami of love’’, his ability to lift people with his bass, and his life-affirming humour.
