Isbell's April 2007 departure was called "amicable" back then, and he went right into building his solo career as Spooner Oldham joined the band just weeks later. While Isbell and the Truckers have shared the stage on a few occasions over the years, their performance on Colbert was billed as their first announced performance together in nearly 20 years."
Jason Isbell reunited with Drive-By Truckers for a performance of "Hell No, I Ain't Happy" on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Drive-By Truckers reissued 2003's Decoration Day as The Definitive Decoration Day, fully remixed by David Barbe and remastered by Greg Calbi, with added live tracks from a 2002 set at Athens' Flicker Bar. Frontman Patterson Hood said he and Isbell remain close and called Decoration Day the band's masterpiece, noting Isbell's integral role. Isbell was a member of Drive-By Truckers from 2001 to 2007 and appears on several albums. His 2007 departure was amicable. Isbell supported Foxes in the Snow in 2025 and will tour the US with The 400 Unit in 2026.
