San Francisco's DJ Bitesize Prepares to Conquer the DMC World Championships
Briefly

Bitesize is a 27-year-old DJ who won the DMC USA Open DJ Championship and will advance to the DMC World Championships in Tokyo this October. Her DJing began about a decade ago after seeing a female DJ on Tumblr, which inspired her to learn the craft. She has performed in stadiums, led classroom workshops, DJed for NPR Tiny Desk winner Ruby Ibarra, and warmed up crowds before Usher at a Rakuten tech summit. Her approach prioritizes playing music that feels good to her and moves the crowd. Scratching and beat juggling were key elements of the competition. Respect and equal treatment for women in DJing remain ongoing challenges.
"The respect is still something that we're building on," says Bitesize. "We just gotta keep going. We can't stop."
"I saw a female DJ posting her mixes," Bitesize says. "I'd never seen a female DJ. It really inspired me."
"If it makes me feel good, it should make others feel good as well - and get them moving," says Bitesize.
"I got the crowd going before Usher started," she says.
