Serj Tankian will release Covers, Collaborations & Collages, a ten-song collection of archival collaborations, covers, and collage pieces, on October 24 via Serjical Strike Records/Create Music Group. The album includes collaborations with deadmau5, Bic Runga, and Lucas Vidal alongside covers such as Chris de Burgh's "I'm Counting On You" and Ruben Hakhverdyan's "When Death Arrives." One new song from the project will be released weekly leading up to the album. The first single, "Electric Dreams," is out now and described as a haunting, bare-bones folky song. System Of A Down have upcoming shows in the NJ/NYC area, Chicago, and Toronto.
System Of A Down leader Serj Tankian's birthday was yesterday (happy belated!), and today he announced Covers, Collaborations & Collages, which will feature collaborations with electronic music giant deadmau5, New Zealand singer/songwriter Bic Runga, and Spanish composer Lucas Vidal, as well as covers of soft rock veteran Chris de Burgh's 1982 deep cut "I'm Counting On You," Armenian songwriter Ruben Hakhverdyan's "When Death Arrives," and more.
Similar to Foundations, these are pre-existing archival recordings, some of them from way back. I wanted to put out a record of collaborations I haven't released before, along with covers, which I haven't done. The rest, the collages, are parts that fit the puzzle in the same tone, the same vibe. Meanwhile, System Of A Down have upcoming shows in NJ/NYC-area with Korn, Chicago with Avenged Sevenfold, and Toronto with Deftones (whose great new album Private Music is out today), plus support from Polyphia and Wisp on all dates.
