Sex Pistols' Never Mind the Bollocks Gets High Fidelity Vinyl Release from Rhino
"We put down a track, just rhythm guitar and drums, pretty much first-take, no mistakes," noted Thomas. "It was impossible to know if it was any good, so, being a bit stumped, I asked [guitarist] Steve [Jones] if he would like to have a go at putting the bass part on."
"It was an absolute 'Eureka!' moment. The combination was so powerful, so simple. We bashed three more songs down, adding the bass and double-tracking the guitar in just a couple of hours. We were seriously in first-take territory."
Rhino issued a high-fidelity reissue of Never Mind the Bollocks on 180-gram vinyl, limited to 5,000 copies and priced at $39.98, available via Rhino's website. The reissue includes new liner notes by producer Chris Thomas. Thomas recalled recording tracks largely in first takes, later adding bass and double-tracking guitars, calling the moment a 'Eureka' instant. The original LP contains classics such as "God Save the Queen," "Anarchy in the U.K.," "Pretty Vacant," and more. The Sex Pistols broke up months after the album's release. Original members Steve Jones, Glen Matlock, and Paul Cook are touring with Frank Carter starting September 16 in Dallas.
