Slash Says New Guns N' Roses Album Is "Coming," Band Has "So Much Material"
""There's so much material at this point - it's a matter of having the discipline to sit down and fucking get into it," the guitarist said, (via a magazine clipping captured on X/Twitter). "But the thing with Guns is, in my experience, you can never plan ahead. You can never sit down and go, 'We're going to take this time, and we're going to do this.' Every time we've done that, it falls apart.""
"It just spontaneously happens through some sort of inspiration that triggers it. And the next thing you know, it's off and running. So it's coming. I know it's coming because everybody is thinking about it. It'll just happen when it happens. Of all the GN'R members, Slash has been the most open about discussing the band's upcoming plans and future releases. The guitarist rightly projected a 2021 release for the singles "Absurd" and "Hard Skool" - at the time, their first new music in 13 years - which were included on the Hard Skool EP a year later. In 2022, Slash also outlined the band's plans to release new songs, possibly "an entire record's worth of material," until the full album was finished."
Guns N' Roses possess a large amount of material intended for a follow-up to Chinese Democracy, with the album expected to arrive when inspiration and commitment converge. Attempts to schedule studio time in advance have repeatedly failed, as progress tends to occur spontaneously. The band released the singles "Absurd" and "Hard Skool" in 2021, which later appeared on the Hard Skool EP. Ongoing touring and members' solo projects have limited studio availability. A Latin American tour runs through mid-November, with future recording sessions contingent on finding focused time to complete the work.
