U2 Release Statements on Israel and Gaza
Briefly

Humanitarian challenges in regions like Sudan and Ethiopia are critically severe, with civil war leading to 150,000 deaths and widespread famine. Despite international focus on the Gaza conflict, the ongoing crises in Africa receive little media attention. Programs like USAID and PEPFAR which support vulnerable populations are facing cuts, threatening lives of hundreds of thousands. The emotional impact stems from personal experiences with famine and suffering, illustrating that the loss of life—especially among children—can never be measured in a hierarchy of suffering.
The hemorrhaging of human life in Sudan or Ethiopia hardly makes the news. Sudan alone is beyond comprehension, with a civil war that has left 150,000 dead and 2 million people facing famine.
But but but... there is no hierarchy to such things. The images of starving children on the Gaza Strip brought me back to a working trip to a food station in Ethiopia.
